The problem
UK removal companies rely on in-person property surveys to estimate move volumes and produce quotes. Each survey costs the operator time, fuel, and labour, and a single surveyor can complete only three to five surveys a day. Accuracy varies between surveyors, which leads either to under-quoting, which produces loss-making jobs, or over-quoting, which loses the customer to a competitor. The entire pre-quote workflow is manual, labour-intensive, and commercially fragile.
What The AI Consultancy group delivered
The group designed and built MoverAI, a video-based AI property survey platform for the UK removals industry. A customer or surveyor records a short smartphone walkthrough video of each room. The video is uploaded to the platform, where Google Gemini multimodal AI analyses it in a single pass to produce a structured inventory of every item, with individual cubic-footage estimates, room-by-room breakdowns, packing-box calculations, and access-difficulty assessments.
The platform was built on a modern cloud stack: a mobile-responsive React front end, a Node.js back end on Google Cloud Run, Gemini Flash for deterministic multimodal video analysis, Cloud Firestore for real-time cross-device sync, and Firebase for storage and authentication, with PDF export for quotes and continuous deployment through GitHub Actions.
The outcome
MoverAI was trialled by 13 office-based users simultaneously, the largest single feedback batch, and 7 of the 13 reported accurate or near-accurate volume estimates on first use. Volume accuracy was validated directly: against an expected 700 cubic feet, the platform returned 732. Item-level estimates improved through model tuning during the engagement; a washing-machine estimate, for example, was corrected from 30 cubic feet to 12 after a model upgrade. Users also reported that the tool produced more detailed item descriptions than surveyors typically write by hand.
The commercial effect is that the platform removes the need for in-person surveys on standard domestic moves, saving roughly one to two hours per survey plus travel time, and replacing a variable manual process with a consistent automated one.
The platform was later extended with MoverAI QuoteFlow, an AI-powered inbound call qualification system that handles calls, qualifies the caller, sends a video survey link by SMS, and delivers a structured lead to the operator's dashboard, at an estimated cost of around 35p per qualification call against 55p to 80p on alternative platforms.
